You'll be pleased to know that for the first time ever, the entire range of 2025 Britannia coins is launching together, and you can now pre-order all of them from us! Let’s dive into what makes the 2025 Britannia gold coins, 2025 Britannia silver coins, and 2025 Britannia platinum coins a must-have this year.

Why Choose the 2025 Britannia Coins?

If you're new to investing in precious metals or have never invested in Britannia coins, it's important to understand what a Britannia coin is and why it stands out from other bullion coins. Equally, if you're a seasoned investor, is now the time to start diversifying your portfolio with 2025 Britannia coins before the upcoming UK 2024 Autumn Budget, set to be delivered on 30 October 2024?

This budget could impact investors who want to sell or plan to add Capital Gains Tax (CGT) exempt bullion, such as these 2025 Britannia bullion coins, to their portfolios. It addresses key issues, including potential changes to how CGT is treated, as the Labour government seeks to close a £22bn gap in public finances.

When Was the Term Britannia First Used?

The history of the term Britannia goes back to the Romans, who conquered Britain between AD 43 and 84 during during the Roman conquest of Britain. Before this, the island was known as Albion, but the Romans gave it the name Britannia. This name comes from the Latin word Britannicae, which the Romans used to describe the British Isles.

As Britain became one of the Roman Empire’s most distant territories, the figure of Britannia began to take shape. Originally inspired by the Roman goddess Minerva, who was associated with war and water, Lady Britannia evolved into the symbol of the British Isles.

What Sets the Britannia Coin Series Apart?

The Britannia coin series is renowned worldwide for its rich heritage, advanced security features, and exceptional investment value, making it a staple in many investors' portfolios. All Britannia coins are UK legal tender pound sterling coins, providing UK residents with Capital Gains Tax (CGT) exemption.

The Britannia series is available in gold, silver, and platinum, offering a range of sizes to suit various investment strategies. As we look ahead to 2025, you can now pre-order the full range of 2025 Britannia coins, with options including gold Britannias from 0.1 oz to 1 oz and silver Britannias from 0.1 oz to 1 kg, providing choices for investors of all levels.

The 2025 Britannia Coin Design

Like previous iterations in the Britannia coin series, the upcoming 2025 Britannia features the standing design of Lady Britannia, inspired by the Roman goddess. The design depicts her holding a trident and shield, wearing a Corinthian-style helmet and flowing robes. In addition, the coin will once again feature Philip Nathan's iconic design, symbolising the strength and resilience of the British Isles.

Security Features of the 2025 Britannia Coin Range

These coins incorporate the cutting-edge security features, first introduced in 2021.

Hologram of trident transition to padlock

One such feature is the small latent image on the bottom-left of the coin, which acts as a hologram, seamlessly transitioning between a trident and a padlock depending on the angle at which the coin is held. Additionally, a micro-text border encircling Britannia bears the inscription "DECUS ET TUTAMEN", translating to “an ornament and a safeguard”. The field of the coin boasts surface animation, with micro-waves creating lines in the background, and tincture lines added to showcase the intricate play of colours and patterns on the metal.

These additional security measures enhance the difficulty of replication for the Britannia coin, establishing it as one of the most investment secure coins globally. This reverse design is accompanied by an uncrowned effigy obverse design of King Charles III, engraved by Martin Jennings.

The 2025 Britannia Coin Specification

Like all Britannias issued post-2012, the 2025 Britannia coins are struck in 0.9999 fine gold (24 carat), 999 fine silver, or 0.9995 fine platinum. Since their first launch in 1987 in gold, 1997 in silver, and 2018 in platinum, the series has cemented its reputation as the UK's most popular 1-ounce coins year after year among many investors.
