The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrates 70 years since she ascended the throne on 6th February 1952, although her coronation would not take place until June the following year.
Queen Elizabeth II is Britain's longest reigning monarch, after surpassing that of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria (63 years, 216 days), in 2015.
Her Majesty is also the 4th longest reigning monarch of all time, behind Louis XIV of France, Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) of Thailand, and Johann II of Liechtenstein.
Piedfort comes from the French pied-fort or piefort which translates to heavy weight. It is used to describe a specially issued coin, which is thicker and heavier than the usual specifications. Piedfort coins are usually struck using the same dies as the standard coins. The diameter remains the same but they are greater thickness and weight of the standard precious metal coin, usually double.
We first heard about the coin after the Privy Council published information about it. The Privy Council is made up of senior politicians who advise the Queen on such matters as bank holidays, coinage and livery company statuses. The Royal Mint have to submit any new coin designs to The Privy Council for approval and that information is then announced on the Privy Council website.

All investment products are based on the live precious metal price. Prices will be fixed once the item has been added to the basket and recalculates just before checking out.
If your product is not a graded coin and is considered a bullion item, it should be noted that these are bought and sold on low premiums over their precious metal content and not solely for aesthetic purposes; therefore, some products may have edge knocks and/or marks. These edge knocks and marks do not alter the specifications of the coins.
