Minty coins are our hand-picked selection of bullion coins that are in good condition and usually, but not always, have been minted in recent years. We consider these coins closer to mint condition than others, but please note this is not a traditional grade.
Dating back to 1782, the bald eagle earned the esteemed title of the national bird of the United States. This distinction came about when it was immortalised, with its wings outstretched, on the Great Seal of America's country.
The 35th U.S. President, John F. Kennedy, once stated, 'The Founding Fathers made an appropriate choice when they selected the bald eagle as the emblem of the nation. The fierce beauty and proud independence of this great bird symbolises the strength and freedom of America.
The original idea was to provide silver coins which would contain a guaranteed one ounce of fine, or pure, silver. There are now many countries which issue silver bullion coins, many are countries where silver is mined, and these mainly issue silver bullion coins every year, and there are other countries which make the occasional silver bullion issue.
This has added to the diversity of different designs available to the collector, and also means that the various mints have begun to compete by offering more choice of design. These are large, attractive coins made of pure silver.
The obverse was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and shows a walking Lady Liberty.
John Mercanti designed the reverse of the coin. It features an eagle with a shield.
