This silver proof twenty five dollar coin was issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II. Struck in sterling silver, this commemorative coin comes in a presenatation box with a certificate of authentication. This coin contains 4.0473 troy ounces of fine silver.

The island of Jamaica in the Caribbean was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1494. Jamaica has had a rich history and gained full independence within the British Commonwealth in 1962. The country adopted a decimal dollar currency in 1969.

Obverse

The obverse features the Jamaican coat of arms mounted by a crocodile atop the Royal Helmet of the British monarchy and mantling. The shield bears five pineapples and is supported on either side by a male and a female member of the Taino tribe. The motto "OUT OF MANY, ONE PEOPLE" represents the unity of the country's rich multi-racial history. This is a slight modification of the original coat of arms issued to Jamaica in 1661.

The coin bears the inscription JAMAICA 1953 1978 TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS.

Reverse

The reverse features an engraving of Queen Elizabeth II facing left on a throne holding the sceptre and orb. The coin bears the inscription · 25th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CORONATION · ELIZABETH II
