Coin Specification

King Canute (also known as Cnut the Great) was coronated as the King of England in January 1017, at the Old St Paul’s Cathedral. Canute was a viking ruler and also the King of Denmark and Norway. 

This is the only UK coin to commemorate a 1000th anniversary. 

The Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse of the coin. 

The reverse was designed by Lee R Jones, and depicts King Canute. The text reads "1017 King Canute 2017".
