The 1990 Britannia four coin gold proof set bears the Standing Britannia reverse design by Philip Nathan.
This year's set contains a gold plated medallion with "Elizabeth R" and the date topped by a large crown, while the reverse design is a horse, the Chinese lunar calendar symbol of the year.
Gold Britannias were first issued in 1987, both proof coins and uncirculated coins. Britannia proof sets have been issued every year since 1987. From 1990, the mintage for the 4 coin sets has been very low. For the patient collector, many of the older sets which we offer represent a very good deal as they are at considerable savings compared with purchasing the current year's set direct from the Royal Mint.
