More Info

In 2006, two different commemorative two pound coins were issued by The Royal Mint to celebrate the life of  Isambard Kingdom Brunel. This coin marks the bicentenary of his birth and features a portrait of Brunel wearing a top hat.

The other coin commemorates his engineering geniusand bears an engraving of Paddington Railway Station, one of his most notable works.

These coins were also issued as circulation coins and as collectable coins in Brilliant Uncirculated, silver proof and silver proof piedfort finishes.

Struck in 22 carat gold, the coin features a red gold outer band around a yellow gold inner disc. The coin comes in a handsome presentation case of green leather with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity guaranteeing its provenance. The issue limit was 1,500 of each design, however, only 1,071 coins of this design were actually issued.

The coin features the edge inscription 1806 - 1859 ISAMBARD KINGDOM BRUNEL ENGINEER
