This symbol has continued to signify royalty and strength for over five centuries in the British monarchy.

On UK definitive coinage, the Royal Arms design was created by Eric Sewell in 1983 for the first £1 coin. Then, in 2019, Timothy Noad reinterpreted it for a new design in The Royal Mint’s bullion coin series. The shield displays the three passant lions for England, the rampant lion for Scotland, the three lions for Wales, and the golden harp for Northern Ireland.
