History of Britannia

Lady Britannia made her first appearance on Roman coins in AD 119 during the Roman era under the rule of Emperor Hadrian but disappeared after the collapse of the Roman Empire. She reappeared during the reign of King Charles II, and Britannia has since featured on every subsequent British monarch.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin features the uncrowned portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings. As there are three coins issued in this set, the inscriptions on the coins vary as they all hold separate monetary face values (£25, £10, £1).

Reverse

The reverse of the 2025 Proof Britannia coin was designed by Bradley Morgan Johnson. Lady Britannia can be seen holding her trident and holding a steady gaze, pointing onwards as she stands above the waves, with a backdrop of rays from the sun. He was inspired by sculptures of the icon, which helped him capture the commanding figure and her connection to the sea.

Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
