Why Choose 2025 Proof Britannia Coins?

With extremely low mintages, these limited-edition 2025 Proof Britannia coins are a must-have for any serious collector. We have the 2025 1 oz silver proof Britannia coins, with a limited-edition presentation of 4,500 coins. This rarity ensures they remain highly sought-after collector pieces, with the potential that collectors may pay more for them in the future.

Additionally, for the first time, 1/3 oz gold proof Britannia coins are manufactured, and are expected to be highly coveted. We are stocking the complete fractional 2025 3-coin gold proof Britannia set and the 2025 6-coin silver proof Britannia set, which includes fractional and full coins.

At Chards Coin and Bullion Dealer, we offer a wide variety of Britannia coins in several sizes and metals. Modern releases in the Proof Britannia series have seen talented Royal Mint engravers create special designs of Lady Britannia to appeal to coin collectors.

History of Britannia

Lady Britannia made her first appearance on Roman coins in AD 119 during the Roman era under the rule of Emperor Hadrian but disappeared after the collapse of the Roman Empire. She reappeared during the reign of King Charles II, and Britannia has since featured on every subsequent British monarch.

Silver Britannias

The Silver Britannia is a popular coin produced by the Royal Mint of the United Kingdom. The coin was first introduced in 1987 and is widely considered to be the UK's most popular Capital Gains Tax (CGT) exempt 1 oz silver coin.

The face value of a 1 oz Silver Britannia is £2, although the coin's intrinsic value is significantly higher due to the value of the silver content. The coin's design features a depiction of Britannia, a female figure symbolising Britain.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin features the uncrowned portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings. As there are six coins issued in this set, the inscriptions on the coins vary as they all hold separate monetary face values (£2, £1, 50 pence, 20 pence, 10 pence, and 5 pence).

Reverse

The reverse of the 2025 Proof Britannia coin was designed by Bradley Morgan Johnson. Lady Britannia can be seen holding her trident and holding a steady gaze, pointing onwards as she stands above the waves, with a backdrop of rays from the sun. He was inspired by sculptures of the icon, which helped him capture the commanding figure and her connection to the sea.
