Yale of Beaufort

A Yale is a mythical creature, said to be the size of an elephant, with a goat-like body, and the tusks and horns of a boar.

The Tudor Beasts

The Tudor Beasts (also known as the King's Beasts) are a series of heraldic statues, which flank the moat bridge at Hampton Court Palace. The ten statues represent King Henry VIII's Tudor ancestry and his marriage to his third wife, Jane Seymour.

Security Feature of the Yale Bullion Coin

The bullion versions of the Yale of Beaufort coins include a chainmail background on the reverse that acts as an added security feature to avoid counterfeits.

Obverse

The obverse features Jody Clark's coinage portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The coin bears the inscription that reads as:

ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 25 POUNDS ·

Reverse

The reverse was designed by David Lawrence. It shows a Yale holding a shield featuring part of Jane Seymour’s coat of arms.

The segment shows an augmentation of honour. It was awarded to Jane’s father, Edward Seymour, upon King Henry’s marriage to Jane. It consists of three lions in the centre, with three fleur-de-lis on each side.

The inscription reads:

2023 YALE OF BEAUFORT · 0.25oz · FINE GOLD · 999.9 ·
