In 1914, sovereigns were issued at The Royal Mint, London and international branches of The Royal Mint in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and Ottawa in Canada. The British sovereign was used as a circulation coin in these countries with a nominal value of one pound.
The obverse of the coin features an image of George V captured by Australian designer Bertram Mackennal. The engraver's initials B.M. are set in the truncated neck and the legend reads GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT:OMB:REX F.D.IND:IMP:
The reverse features an image of St George slaying a dragon as designed by Bendetto Pristrucci. The letter M in the ground shows that the sovereign was minted in Melbourne, Australia. The date and initials B.P. are located in exergue.
