This 1914 George V gold sovereign coin was issued by the Melbourne mint. Struck in 22 carat gold, this British sovereign bears Benedetto Pistrucci's iconic engraving of St George and Dragon.

In 1914, sovereigns were issued at The Royal Mint, London and international branches of The Royal Mint in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and Ottawa in Canada. The British sovereign was used as a circulation coin in these countries with a nominal value of one pound.

The obverse of the coin features an image of George V captured by Australian designer Bertram Mackennal. The engraver's initials B.M. are set in the truncated neck and the legend reads GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT:OMB:REX F.D.IND:IMP:
The reverse features an image of St George slaying a dragon as designed by Bendetto Pristrucci. The letter M in the ground shows that the sovereign was minted in Melbourne, Australia. The date and initials B.P. are located in exergue.
