The 1903 Edward VII gold full sovereign features the bare head portrait of the late King Edward VII, with the reverse showing Benedetto Pistrucci's St George and the Dragon.

This 1903 Edward VII sovereign was issued by The Royal Mint in London. This British coin is struck in 22 carat gold in medal alignment. This historic coin bears the iconic St George and Dragon engraving on the reverse.

Edward VII, the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had disappointed his staid, respectable parents with his wild and scandalous ways. However, Tumtum, as the over-indulgent monarch was nicknamed in private, was exceedingly affable and well-liked by the public. The king was an excellent diplomat and played a fundamental role in the Entente Cordiale and Triple Entente agreements between Britain, Russia and France.

We usually have a selection of 1903 sovereigns in stock from different mints, and in different grades, at a variety of prices. Coins produced in London can be identified by the lack of mintmark in the exergue. The year, 1903 and the initials B.P. are situated under the exergue.

Obverse

The legend on the obverse reads

Reverse

The reverse features the famous St George slaying the dragon design by Italian engraver, Benedetto Pistrucci. The date and the engraver's initials B.P. are in exergue.
