The 1825 gold proof full sovereign features the bare head portrait of king George IV as the obverse design with the reverse decpiting the crowned shield
We regularly have "graded" 1825 sovereigns and 1825 half sovereigns in stock. The proof is very rare to find in good condition.
The image shown is from one of our graded coins as we have created this page to provide numismatists an estimated price if we were to get one in.
If you are interested, please sign up for a stock alert to be the first to find out when we do get one in.

The 1825 bare head gold sovereign was one of two sovereign designs that were issued in that year. This is the new design which took over from the design of previous sovereigns during King George IV's reign. The laureate head design of the obverse side was changed by the removal of the laurel leaf crown to create the bare head design. The reverse side was changed from Benedetto's St George design of previous years to a crowned shield design. The inscriptions were also changed. See the laureate design here.
The obverse depicts a bare head potrait of King George IV by J.B. Merlen
The inscription reads
GEORGIUS IV DEI GRATIA
It also includes small, oval flowers which separate the inscription from the date which is inscribed below the portrait.
The reverse shows Jean Baptiste Merlen's design of a crowned shield.
The inscription reads
BRITANNIARUM REX FID: DEF:
