The 1825 gold full sovereign features the bare head of King george IV designed by Benedetto Pistruci, with the reverse engraving depicting a crowned shield.
The 1825 laureate head gold sovereign was one of two sovereign designs that were issued in that year. This design resembles the design of previous sovereigns of King George IV's reign. The laureate head design of the obverse side was changed by the removal of the laurel leaf crown to create the bare head design. The reverse side was changed from Benedetto's St George design of previous years to a crowned shield design. The inscriptions were also changed. See the bare head design here.

Hammered gold coins called 'sovereigns' had been minted on and off between 1489-1604, whereupon James I (VI) changed the name of the 20/- gold piece to a 'Unite'. The reform coinage sovereign of 1817 onwards was issued as a normal circulation type coin, and also as a proof.
The obverse depicts a laureate head of King George IV.
The inscription reads
GEORGIUS IIII D:G BRITANNIAR. REX F:D:
The reverse shows Benedetto Pistrucci's design of St. George slaying a dragon in a garter. It also bears the year of mintage.
