The 50p Collector's Series - The Gruffalo Collection
Synopsis
The Gruffalo was first published on 23rd March, 1999. It was written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. The book tells the story of a mouse and his journey through the forest, scaring off dangerous animals with tales of the Gruffalo - a mythical monster who is part buffalo, part grizzly bear and all monster! Little does he know that the Gruffalo actually exists and he is about to come face to face with him. The popular children's story has sold over 13.5 million copies worldwide.

2019 The Gruffalo 50 Pence Coin
The first 2019 50p coin to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the children's favourite book, The Gruffalo. Voted the United Kingdom’s favourite bedtime story in 2009, the award-winning book has been translated into more than 76 languages and in 2009 the story was transformed into an Oscar and BAFTA-nominated animated movie. This 50p features only the eponymous monster on the reverse.
2019 The Gruffalo and Mouse
The second coin released in celebration of 20 years of The Gruffalo. Both the little brown mouse and the Gruffalo appear together on the reverse of this 50p coin.
