What Is Cluedo?

The name Cluedo comes from a combination of “Clue”, referring to hints or pieces of evidence, and “Ludo”, Latin for “I play” or “I am playing”. In North America, the game is simply named "Clue", as it was determined the inclusion of Latin and the play on words would not be widely understood.

It is a boardgame first designed in 1943 by Anthony E. Pratt before the game’s eventual production and release by Waddingtons in 1949. The game is currently owned and published by Hasbro.

 The objective of the game is to uncover the truth behind a mysterious murder by identifying the culprit, the location of the crime, and the weapon used. Players take on the roles of six unique suspects, navigating the rooms of a grand mansion in search of vital clues. Through strategic movement, deduction, and observation of their opponents, players must piece together the evidence and solve the case before anyone else.

What Is Proof?

Proof coins are specially produced to a much higher standard of finish than bullion coins, with multiple strikes for a highly-detailed design. These coins are not graded by condition but are instead defined by their method of production. Originally created as pre-production samples, proof coins now serve a prominent role in the collector's market.

The obverse features the uncrowned coinage portrait of King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings. The inscription reads:

CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 50 PENCE · 2026 · 

The reverse of the coin designed by Henry Gray showcases each of Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlett, Mrs White, Reverend Green, Mrs Peacock and Professor Plum as their colour co-ordinated game pieces featured on the cards of the original board game release.

Acting as a background is a micro-text detail of popular Cluedo traits, with a framing inscription above the design that reads:

To the bottom of the reverse is the classic Cluedo logo atop of a scroll.
