Chards is a prime distributor of bullion for the Perth Mint. Our 2024 Year of the Dragon coin range, as well as other Perth Mint products, is sourced directly from their mint headquarters in Western Australia.
The reverse of all coins except the largest coin in the silver range, the 10 kilo, includes a micro-engraved letter (P) that is only detectable with visual aids such as a magnifying glass.
The letter 'P' is engraved just above, within a wave, located above the dragon's top-left hand. This measure is taken to prevent counterfeit coins from being passed off as genuine coins.
In China, they will celebrate the Chinese Year of 4722 when the Year of the Dragon begins. Individuals born between the following dates are considered to be dragons in the Chinese lunar year calendar and are associated with the wood element.

Dragons are said to be natural leaders who guide others with their charisma and are believed to achieve success because of their unwavering spirits. It is noted that the lucky numbers for a dragon are 6 and 8, while their unlucky numbers are 4 and 9.
Here is a short list of famous celebrities, both past and present, who were born during the Chinese lunar calendar year of the dragon.
The obverse bears the Jody Clark memorial portrait with the dates of her reign '1952-2022' which was first seen on the 2023 Australian kangaroo bullion coins.
The inscription around the portrait reads as follows:
· ELIZABETH II 1952-2022 · AUSTRALIA · 1KG 9999 Ag 30 DOLLARS ·
The coin's reverse features a powerful dragon depicted alongside waves at the lower layer and winds at the centre of the coin's design. Additionally, you'll find the Chinese character '龍,' which translates to 'dragon,' along with the inscription 'DRAGON 2024.'
A special mintmark, 'P125,' commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Australian Perth Mint, is also placed behind the dragon.
