95th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II turned 95 years old on 21st April 2021. Her official birthday is celebrated on the 2nd Saturday in June. Not only is she the longest-reigning monarch in UK history, but also the only one to reach the age of 95.

Elizabeth ascended to the throne in 1952 after the sudden death of her father, King George VI. During her 1953 Coronation, she notably declared "my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong."

Obverse

The obverse was designed by Jody Clark. It is the fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to be used on UK coins.

The text reads:

ELIZABETH II · DEI · GRA · REGINA · FID · DEF

Reverse

The reverse was designed by Benedetto Pistrucci and shows the iconic St. George and the Dragon. This has been used on sovereigns (with a few exceptions) since 1817. Over the years The Royal Mint have digitally remastered the dies using original tooling.

This 2021 coin features a cypher mintmark of a '95' inside a crown. This is to celebrate the 95th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.
