Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the End of World War II with this 2020 Strike-on-the-Day Gold Sovereign Coin

These sovereigns will be struck on 15th August, 2020 - the 75th Anniversary of Victory over Japan Day.

The coins feature a special VJ75 privy mark, which is exclusive to the coin. Only 750 of the coins will be minted.

The End of the Second World War

Even though Victory in Europe was declared on 8th May, 1945, the war still continued in the Far East. The Empire of Japan continued to wage war against the Allies, with the Soviet Union finally declaring war against Japan on the 8th August.

The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States finally forced them to surrender. At midnight on 14th August, Prime Minister Clement Attlee announced the news and the nation celebrated with street parties and bonfires. The world could now start to rebuild.

Victory over Japan (VJ) Day is celebrated on 15th August and 2020 marks its 75th anniversary.

Obverse

The fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of the coin. It was designed by Jody Clark.

Reverse

The reverse features the iconic St George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci with the privy mark "VJ75" to the upper-left of the date.
