The 2017 Queen's Beasts Griffin 2oz silver coin is the second in the series. Struck in 999.9 silver fineness, this is the second coin in the collection.

The Queen's Beasts are a series of ten statues that were created for Elizabeth II's coronation at Westmnister Abbey in 1953. They combine heraldic elements and mythical creatures which form a part of the Queen's royal ancestry.

The Royal Mint launched their Queen's Beasts bullion range in 2016. The griffin coins are the second in the series. The first coin featured a lion. We also stock the 1oz gold version of this coin.

Both the obverse and reverse of the coins were designed by Royal Mint engraver, Jody Clark.

The coins have a face value of £5.

Obverse

The fifth coinage portrait of Elizabeth II features on the obverse of the coin, designed by Jody Clark. The reverse bears the inscription:

ELIZABETH II·D·G·REG·F·D·5 POUNDS·

Reverse

Designed by Jody Clark, the reverse features a griffin grasping the House of Windsor shield set against a chain mail background. The griffin is the heraldic symbol of Edward III and is a mythical creature, part eagle, part lion. The coin bears the inscription:

GRIFFIN OF EDWARD III 2oz ·FINE SILVER·999.9·2017

with the engraver's initials, JC below the design.

Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
