The Griffin is the second in a series of ten coins featuring the Queen's Beasts. This 2017 1 oz gold uncirculated coin features a Griffin; a mythical beast with the body of a lion and the head, wings and talons of an eagle.

Struck in 999.9 gold fineness
Each coin contains one troy ounce of gold

Gold Queens Beasts

The Royal Mint launched their Queen's Beasts bullion coin series in 2016. The Queen's Beasts are based on the ten sculptures that were created for the Queen's Coronation in 1953 by sculptor, James Woodford RA. Positioned to guard the entrance of Westminster Abbey, the statues featured heraldic elements combined with mythical creatures that represent the Queen's ancestry.

The first coins featured a lion design, whilst the second features a griffin on the reverse.

Obverse

The obverse of the Queen's Beasts coins show the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse

The reverse design displays a griffin, on top of a shield. The legend reads:

"GRIFFIN OF EDWARD III. 1oz FINE GOLD 999.9 2017"

This was designed by The Royal Mint engraver, Jody Clark.

Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
