These 2017 Gold 1 oz $100 Kangaroo Investment Bullion Coins are issued by the Royal Australian Mint.

Features Australia's favourite animal, the kangaroo on the reverse and the late Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The Kangaroo design is the same design used for the pre-decimal penny in Australia from 1937-1964.

This coin has a denomination value of 100 Australian Dollars and contains 1 troy ounce of the precious metal. The coin is part of the Investment Kangaroo Series by the Royal Australian Mint. 

The coin originally had an unlimited mintage but only 4000 coins were produced in total! 

The coin is an uncirculated commemorative issue and has a fineness of 0.9999 / 24 carat gold.

What is the Royal Australian Mint?

The Royal Australian Mint opened in 1965, and are they mamufacture currency for several countries. They produce over 15 billion coins and create three types of coins.

Kangaroo Bullion Coins

The Perth mint also have a bullion coin series of Kangaroo coins called the Kangaroo Nugget Series. Until 1990 the coins featured famous gold nuggets on the reverse and were referred to as 'nuggets'. From 1990 onwards the design changed to feature a kangaroo instead. For this reason the coins may be called nuggets, kangaroos or 'roos. No more than 100,000 1/2oz coins, 150,000 1/4oz coins and 200,000 1/10oz coins will be produced. 

Obverse

The obverse features the 4th portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right. Designed by Ian Rank Broadley and depicts her majesrsty wearing the girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.

Around the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II are flowers and leaves of the Tasmanian Blue Gum. 

Also, the coin bears an inscription that reads as:

ELIZABETH II · AUSTRALIA · 100 DOLLARS  ·

Reverse

The reverse features a kangaroo design that was used on Australian copper pennies.

The bounding kangaroo is surrounded by flowers and leaves of a Tasmanian Blue Gum. The Tasmanian Blue Gum tree is part of the Eucalyptus family and are only found in Southeast Australia. The coin also features a Commonweath star, which is also found on the Australian flag. The Commonwealth star has seven points to represent the seven states and territories of Australia.
