Who are NGC?

NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) is a prominent coin grading company renowned for evaluating and authenticating coins. Their expertise adds credibility and value to numismatic collections, providing assurance to collectors and investors worldwide.

1968 Full Sovereign Mintage

There were 4,203,000 sovereigns minted in 1968 which makes this a very common date for sovereigns.

What Is Capital Gains Tax?

Capital Gains Tax (CGT) is a form of levies imposed on the profit garnered from the sale of assets, such as real estate, investments, and collectibles. In the United Kingdom, the present CGT allowance is £3,000 per annum per individual, which implies that one can earn up to £3,000 from the sale of assets prior to being subject to CGT.

For UK residents, bullion coins which are UK legal tender pound sterling coins are exempt from capital gains tax (CGT).

Obverse

The Elizabeth II pre-decimal portrait, designed by British sculptor Mary Gillick features on the obverse of the 1968 sovereign. Mary Gillick's crownless portrait is still being struck on Maundy Money coins today.

Reverse

The 1968 British gold sovereign reverse shows St George mounted on horseback, slaying the Dragon. This classic design was created by Royal Mint Engraver Bernedetto Pistrucci, and first appeared on sovereigns in 1817.
