1963 Full Sovereign Mintage

There were 7,400,000 sovereigns minted in 1963 which makes this a very common date for sovereigns.

The Elizabeth II pre-decimal portrait, designed by British sculptor Mary Gillick features on the obverse of the 1963 sovereign. Mary Gillick's crownless portrait is still being struck on Maundy Money coins today.

The 1963 British gold sovereign reverse shows St George mounted on horseback, slaying the Dragon. This classic design was created by Royal Mint Engraver Benedetto Pistrucci, and first appeared on sovereigns in 1817.
