The 1821 gold sovereign features the large laureate head of King George IV on the obverse with the reverse showing the classic St George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci.

We sometimes have "graded" 1821 sovereigns and 1821 half sovereigns in stock. The proof is very rare to find in good condition.

George IV Sovereigns

The 1821 gold sovereign was the first sovereign to be issued during the reign of King George IV. Sovereigns were issued for George IV in each of the ten years from 1821 to 1830. From 1821 until 1825 a large laureate portrait combines with St. George and the dragon on the reverse.

Reverse

The reverse shows Benedetto Pistrucci's design of St. George slaying a dragon in a garter. It also bears the year of mintage.
