These 22 carat gold bullion sovereigns are exempt from capital gains tax and are our lowest premium shield sovereigns. Although these coins are classified as bullion, the coin you receive may be in a better than bullion condition.

Shield sovereigns are often more desirable to collectors than the St George and the dragon reverse coins, as they were only produced from 1838 until 1887.

This coin comes loose. You can purchase a 22.5mm capsule to protect it, or add a presentation case or gift box to your order in the basket for the perfect present.

Obverse

The obverse shows the young head portrait of Queen Victoria. It was designed by William Wyon.

Reverse

The reverse displays a crowned shield of the Royal Arms. It was designed by Jean Baptiste Merlen and was used on sovereigns from 1838 until 1887.

These may have minor scratches or edge knocks, but this does not affect their value. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.
VAT:
Investment gold products are VAT-free, while silver products include VAT.
Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
