The Reign of Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria was queen of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in (1837-1901) and empress of India (1876-1901). Queen Victoria's reign was one of the longest to date in British history. She was the daughter of Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn.

Her upbringing under a controlling mother led to her accession in 1837. She favored Prime Minister Lord Melbourne and married Prince Albert, who influenced her deeply. The Industrial Revolution, empire expansion, and political party evolution defined her reign. Victoria's death in 1901 left behind a transformed monarchy and a legacy of significant societal and technological changes.

  • The Old ('Widow' or 'Veiled') Head - Designed by Sir Thomas Brock
