Gold Britannias Vs Gold Sovereigns

Gold Britannia coins was first introduced by The Royal Mint in 1987 as an annual bullion coin weighing one ounce, with a face value of £100. Unlike traditional gold sovereign coins, these gold Britannias are minted in 24-carat gold (9999 fineness) instead of the 22-carat gold (0.9167 fineness) familiar to UK investors. Since 1987, the gold Britannia coin has become the preferred 24-carat gold bullion choice among investors in the UK, as opposed to gold sovereign coins, which were first minted in 1489 during the reign of King Henry VII with a face value of £1.

Importantly, both are exempt from Capital Gains Tax, ensuring you won't be charged on any profit you make from these bullion coins. Today both UK bullion investment coins compete with various other international 24-carat bullion coins, such as gold maples, gold Australian nuggets, and Chinese pandas.

Krugerrand Coins

Gold Krugerrands are produced by the Rand Refinery in South Africa. First issued in 1967, the Krugerrand became the most traded one ounce gold coin in the 1980s. The success of this gold bullion coin encouraged major mints all over the world to issue their own 1 oz gold coins.
