Johnson Matthey

Johnson Matthey is a globally respected refiner and bullion product manufacturer. They have been producing bars for several decades, with variations in design, length, font, and stamps across different facilities.

Johnson Matthey can trace its roots back to 1817, when P.N. Johnson set up business as a gold assayer in London. In 1852, the company was appointed official assayer and refiner to the Bank of England. However, the company is no longer involved in precious metals refining, having sold that arm of the business in 2015, and now focusses on chemicals and sustainable technologies.

    These may have minor scratches or edge knocks, but this does not affect their value. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.

  • VAT:

    Investment gold products are VAT-free, while silver products include VAT.

  • Cancellations & Returns:

    Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
