This 20 Coin Gold Proof Britannia Set showcases some of the most iconic Britannia designs by Philip Nathan. The set features five different Britannia designs, in four sizes. It contains 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold proof Britannias from 1997, 1998, 2001, 2003 and 2005. That's a total of 20 gold proof coins!

Each coin is issued to a proof finish and struck from 916.7 (22 carat) gold. The set has a total gold weight of 9.25 troy ounces.

This Britannia Proof Set if perfect for collectors who wish to own a range of Britannia designs, all by Philip Nathan.

Only 27 of these sets were issued.

Gold Britannia Coins

Gold Britannia coins were introduced in 1987. They were originally issued in 22 carat (916.7) gold,. The fineness was changed to 24 carat (999.9) in 2013.

The coins in the set are all 22 carat.

Obverse

The obverse of the coins features the Ian Rank Broadley coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

The text on each coin reads:

The denomination of the coin appears at the bottom.

Reverse

All of the reverse designs are by artist, Philip Nathan.

1997 - Two-Horse Chariot - A figure of Britannia standing whilst driving a two horse chariot in the manner of Boudicca (Boadicea).

1998 - Classic Standing Britannia - The original design of Britannia lady Britannia. She holds a shield in one hand and a trident in the other.

2001 - Britannia and the Lion - Inspired by Una and the Lion, the 2001 design features Britannia standing next to a lion. She is holding a trident and shield.

2003 - Britannia Helmet - A side facing portrait of Britannia wearing a helmet.

2005 - Seated Britannia - Britannia sat down outdoors. She is holding the trident, whilst her shield is led down next to her.
