This coin will be chosen from a mixture of cupro-nickel florins which were issued during the reign of George VI. The dates range from 1947 to 1951.

Types of George VI Florin Coins

During George VI's reign there were 3 types of Florins issued. The first kind was 50% silver and issued up until 1946 inclusive. The reverse text reads:-

FID DEF IND IMP TWO SHILLINGS (DATE)

The second type was introduced in 1947 when they removed the silver content from the coins and changed them to an alloy of copper and nickel, referred to as cupro-nickel. The design on the coin remained the same as the silver counterpart.

The final type were issued from 1949 - 1951 and featured the revised reverse text:-

 FID DEF TWO SHILLINGS (DATE)

Florins

A florin (or two shilling) was worth one tenth of a pound or 24 pence. The coins were introduced in 1849 and remained in circulation until 1967. The final florin to be issued was in 1970, as part of the farewell to pre-decimal coins sets.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin was designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget and shows King George VI facing left. The text reads:-

GEORGIVS VI D G BR OMN REX. T

Reverse

The reverse of the coin was designed by Kruger Gray. It features a crowned rose with a thistle and shamrock on either side. The text reads:-

1947 - 1948

FID DEF IND IMP TWO SHILLINGS (DATE)

1949 - 1951

FID DEF TWO SHILLINGS (DATE)
