History of Engelhard 1 oz Silver Rounds

During the late 1970's and early 1980's many silver refineries competed by creating their own silver bullion products such as bars, and even rounds. In 1982, Engelhard was the first company to sell 1 oz silver rounds, which featured the American prospector design.

In 1987, Engelhard stopped producing silver bullion. It’s believed this was due to the introduction of the Silver Eagle by the US Mint in 1986. The Silver Eagle was a legal tender coin that would go on to become the flagship coin of US bullion investment.

Obverse

The obverse of the round depicts the Engelhard logo alongside an inscription that reads as:

Reverse

The reverse of the round features a design of an American prospector panning for gold in a river. The coin also includes an inscription:

Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
