2006 Elizabeth II 80th Birthday Sovereign Collection - 31 Coin Set

Start an instant sovereign collection with this 2006 Elizabeth II Eightieth Birthday Coin Set.The set comprises of 31 sovereigns struck during Elizabeth's lifetime; 24 of the coins were issued during her reign, while 7 of the coins were issued during the reign of her grandfather, George V.

The coins come in a wooden presentation box with a certificate of authenticity. The certificate from The Royal Mint says all the coins are in extremely fine condition. 

Each coin is struck from 22 carat gold and contains 0.2354 troy ounces of the precious metal. The full set contains 7.2974 troy ounces of gold.

These coins are exempt from capital gains tax and also VAT-free.

Sovereign Dates

The dates of the coins are:

George V: 1926, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930, 1931 and 1932

Elizabeth II: 1957, 1958, 1959, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006

The 1932 South Africa sovereign was the last date that George V sovereigns were produced. The  Pretoria mintmark coins were the only sovereigns to be issued in 1932.

Obverse

The obverse portraits vary. 

The 1929 - 1932 sovs have the modified effigy (smaller head) portrait of King George V by Bertram Mackennal. 

The rest of the coins feature the Mary Gillick, Arnold Machin and Ian Rank-Broadley coinage portraits of Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse

The majority of these coins feature the iconic St George and the Dragon reverse, as designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. This has been used on most modern sovereigns since their introduction in 1817.

The 2002 coin has a shield reverse to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee. The design features the Royal Arms within a laurel wreath. It was created by Timothy Noad.

The 2005 coin features a modern interpretation of St George and the Dragon, also by Timothy Noad.

These are not regarded as faulty or damaged goods as their precious metal content and value as a bullion coin is not affected. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.

Gold investment products are VAT free. Silver investment products are inclusive of VAT at the current rate unless otherwise stated.

All investment products are based on the live precious metal price. Prices will be fixed once the item has been added to the basket and recalculates just before checking out. 

If your product is not a graded coin and is considered a bullion item, it should be noted that these are bought and sold on low premiums over their precious metal content and not solely for aesthetic purposes; therefore, some products may have edge knocks and/or marks. These edge knocks and marks do not alter the specifications of the coins.

Please note that all investment products are exempt from the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and therefore customers do not have the right to cancel their order once the order has been accepted.   • Within the UK and BFPO - Next day fully insured and tracked. Delivery starts from £6. 

Orders under £60

  • Within the UK and BFPO - Royal Mail 2nd Class. Your order will normally arrive within 2-3 working days. Delivery starts from £3.50.

Postal Insurance

  • Orders over £1500 we charge a fee in order to cover the increasing costs of insurance. For every £1500 we apply a £1 fee.
