This coin commemorates the Allies' formal acceptance of Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces on 8th May 1945.

This coin is struck in .999 fine or 24 carat gold.

This coin is number 28 of only 75 issued.

VE Day

On 8th May 1945 the Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the German military forces, bringing an end to World War II. Adolf Hitler committed suicide over a week before, and was succeeded by Karl Dönitz.

Upon hearing the news of Germany's surrender and the end of the war, celebrations erupted across the western world with an estimated one million people in the UK celebrating in the streets.

Prime Minister Winston Churchill addressed the crowd that gathered outside Whitehall, saying:

God bless you all. This is your victory. In our long history, we have never seen a greater day than this. Everyone, man or woman, has done their best.

The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II and is inscribed:

The reverse features the image of a soldier standing in front of silhouettes of the Royal Family and Winston Churchill. It is inscribed:
