History of Silver Kookaburra Coins

Silver kookaburra coins were first issued in 1990. The bullion coins were originally issued in 0.999 fineness, until 2018, when The Perth Mint changed the coin to 0.9999 fineness.

For the 2026 silver kookaburra release, the small privy mark features the 1990 silver kookaburra design. This showcases the evolution of the design and marks the 35th anniversary of the silver kookaburra series.

Security Features of 2026 Kookaburra Silver Coins

Each of the 2026 silver kookaburras in the collection includes a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. This letter is only detectable under a magnifying glass but acts as a great security measure and helps decrease the likelihood of counterfeit versions of this coin entering the market.

The obverse features the Australian portrait of King Charles III by Dan Thorne.

Reverse

Designed by Wade Robinson, the coin features a kookaburra gliding elegantly through the air. An Australian landscape appears in the background.

The coin’s reverse includes a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter within the coin’s design.
It is only detectable under a magnifying glass.
