Australian Koala Coins

The Koala bullion coin series is a highly esteemed collection of gold Koala and silver Koala coins manufactured by the Perth Mint of Australia. First issued in 2007, the series features designs of the adored Australian marsupial, the koala, in its natural habitat.

History of The Perth Mint

The Perth Mint was established in 1899 during the peak of the Western Australian gold rush. Its primary purpose was to mint Australian gold into British Sovereigns, a role it fulfilled until 1931, striking a total of 106 million gold Sovereigns.

Ranking as one of the world's most active mints, The Perth Mint produces a wide range of bullion and collector coins in gold, silver, and platinum coins not only for its native Australia but also for other countries.

What is Bullion?

As seen in our blog page, What is Bullion? Bullion refers to precious metals like gold and silver, valued primarily for their weight and purity. It is typically bought as coins or bars and traded close to its intrinsic metal value.

This is irrespective of the coin's condition, unlike proof and uncirculated products, that may have a collectable value above the intrinsic price.

Obverse

The obverse features the commonwealth portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Daniel Thorne.
