What is the Seymour Panther?

The Seymour Panther is a heraldic mythological beast given to Henry VIII’s third wife, Jane Seymour from the treasury of royal beasts. It was gifted by the king to represent Jane Seymour’s beauty and grace.

Although it was eventually gifted to Jane Seymour, the beast actually began life as Anne Boleyn's heraldic leopard before being altered into the gifted panther following her beheading.

What are the Royal Tudor Beasts?

The Tudor Beasts (also known as the King's Beasts) are a series of heraldic statues, which flank the moat bridge at Hampton Court Palace. The ten statues represent King Henry VIII's Tudor ancestry and his marriage to his third wife, Jane Seymour.

What is Bullion?

Bullion refers to precious metals like gold and silver, valued primarily for their weight and purity. It’s typically bought as coins or bars and traded close to its intrinsic metal value. This is irrespective of the coin's condition, unlike proof and uncirculated products, that may have a value above the intrinsic price.

More information can be found on our blog page, What is Bullion?

What Is Capital Gains Tax?

Capital Gains Tax (CGT) is a form of levies imposed on the profit garnered from the sale of assets, such as real estate, investments, and collectibles. In the United Kingdom, the present CGT allowance is £3,000 per annum per individual, which implies that one can earn up to £3,000 from the sale of assets prior to being subject to CGT.

For UK residents, bullion coins which are UK legal tender pound sterling coins are exempt from capital gains tax (CGT).

Obverse

The obverse features the uncrowned coinage portrait of King Charles III designed by Martin Jennings. The inscription reads:

CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 25 POUNDS ·

Reverse

The reverse side features an interpretation of the Hampton Court Palace Seymour Panther, designed by David Lawrence. The beast is depicted holding a shield bearing the Seymour Wings, symbolising peace, freedom and flight.

The design features a micro-detail surface animation background security feature and an inscription that reads as:

SEYMOUR PANTHER · 1/4 oz · FINE GOLD · 999.9

· 2026 ·
