Who are Pink Floyd?

Formed in London in 1965 by Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright before being joined by David Gilmour towards the end of 1967, Pink Floyd gained an underground following as one of Britain's first psychedelic rock groups. Following their growing experimentation with music, from extended compositions, explosive live performances and genre-bending riffs, the band led the way into an up-coming genre, "Progressive Rock".

Under Barrett as their main songwriter, the band released their successful debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn in 1967 but after struggling with his mental health, Barrett stepped away from the band, and Roger Waters took the reins as primary lyricist.

The band went onto release multiple successful studio albums such as, The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall, and in 1996 were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for their influence on rock music, with over 30 years of pioneering songwriting and performances.
