The kookaburra, also known as the 'laughing kookaburra,' is a species of kingfisher that gathers at dusk and dawn to declare territorial boundaries.

History of Silver Kookaburra Coins

Silver kookaburra coins were first issued in 1990. The bullion coins were originally issued in 0.999 fineness, until 2018, when The Perth Mint changed the coin to 0.9999 fineness.

For the 2025 silver kookaburra release, the small privy mark features the 1990 silver kookaburra design. This showcases the evolution of the design and marks the 35th anniversary of the silver kookaburra series.

Security Features of 2025 Kookaburra Silver Coins

Each of the 2025 silver kookaburras in the collection includes a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. This letter is only detectable under a magnifying glass but acts as a great security measure and helps decrease the likelihood of counterfeit versions of this coin entering the market.

Obverse

The obverse features the depiction of King Charles III, designed by Dan Thorne. His Majesty is shown facing left, with the following inscription:

Reverse

On the reverse, the kookaburra bird is facing left and is perched on a branch. Below, there is a 'P' mintmark, representing The Perth Mint, and a small circular privy mark featuring the original 1990 silver kookaburra design, which was the first coin in the series.
