Perth Mint Prime Distributor

Chards is a prime distributor of bullion for the Perth Mint. Our 2024 Year of the Dragon coin range, as well as other Perth Mint products, is sourced directly from their mint headquarters in Western Australia.

Security Authentication Feature

The reverse of all coins except the largest coin in the silver range, the 10 kilo, includes a micro-engraved letter (P) that is only detectable with visual aids such as a magnifying glass.

The letter 'P' is engraved just above, within a wave, located above the dragon's top-left hand. This measure is taken to prevent counterfeit coins from being passed off as genuine coins.

2024 Year of the Dragon

In China, they will celebrate the Chinese Year of 4722 when the Year of the Dragon begins. Individuals born between the following dates are considered to be dragons in the Chinese lunar year calendar and are associated with the wood element.

Date: Saturday, 10 February 2024

End: Saturday, 25 January 2025

What Years Come Under the Sign of the Chinese Lunar Dragon?

The Years of the Dragon include: 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024 and every 12 years later.

Personality of Dragon Signs

Dragons are said to be natural leaders who guide others with their charisma and are believed to achieve success because of their unwavering spirits. It is noted that the lucky numbers for a dragon are 6 and 8, while their unlucky numbers are 4 and 9.

Famous People Born in the Year of the Dragon

Here is a short list of famous celebrities, both past and present, who were born during the Chinese lunar calendar year of the dragon.

  • Pelé (Edson Arantes do Nascimento): October 23, 1940 - Metal Dragon
  • Liam Neeson:  June 7, 1952  - Water Dragon
  • Keanu Reeves: September 2, 1964 - Wood Dragon
  • 50 Cent (Curtis James Jackson III): July 6, 1975 - Fire Dragon
  • Adele (Laurie Adkins): May 5, 1988 - Earth Dragon

Obverse

The obverse bears the Jody Clark memorial obverse with the dates of her reign '1952-2022' which was first seen on the 2023 Australian kangaroo bullion coins.

An inscription goes around the portrait and reads as the following:

· ELIZABETH II 1952-2022 · AUSTRALIA · 1/2oz 9999 Ag 50 CENTS ·

Reverse

The coin's reverse features a dragon with water erupting from its mouth in a central position, alongside waves and a flaming pearl. The pearl is associated with great power and symbolises wisdom in Chinese culture, often depicted alongside the Chinese dragon. In some cases, two dragons are shown fighting over the flaming pearl.

Additionally, you'll find the Chinese character '龍,' which translates to 'dragon,' along with the inscription 'DRAGON 2024.' A special mintmark, 'P125,' commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Australian Perth Mint, is also placed under the dragon.

Bullion coins are provided as is and on occasion may have some minor scratches or edge knocks. These are not regarded as faulty or damaged goods as their precious metal content and value as a bullion coin is not affected. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.

Gold investment products are VAT free. Silver investment products are inclusive of VAT at the current rate unless otherwise stated.

All investment products are based on the live precious metal price. Prices will be fixed once the item has been added to the basket and recalculates just before checking out.

If your product is not a graded coin and is considered a bullion item, it should be noted that these are bought and sold on low premiums over their precious metal content and not solely for aesthetic purposes; therefore, some products may have edge knocks and/or marks. These edge knocks and marks do not alter the specifications of the coins.

Please note that all investment products are exempt from the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and therefore customers do not have the right to cancel their order once the order has been accepted. If customers no longer wish to go ahead with their investment purchase, there is an option to sell the products back to Chard (1964) Ltd instead. View our current buy back prices.
