The 2023 Britannia Silver Proof 1 oz Coin features a new representation of Britain's iconic figure, symbolising the country's values and maritime origins.

These 2023-dated coins are the first proof Britannias to feature Martin Jenning's portrait of King Charles III on the obverse. Designed by Jonathan Olliffe, the reverse of the coin reflects the historical context of its time by featuring aquatic and serpent-inspired creatures alongside traditional equine figures.

Each coin is struck in 999 fine silver to a proof standard, and accompanied by a booklet detailing Britannia's story and the inspiration behind the design.

3,500 coins are issued in this limited edition presentation.

Britannia on Coins

Britannia has been a feature on British coinage since 1672, with silver Britannia coins introduced in 1997. They were originally issued in .958 Britannia silver, with the fineness changing to .999 fine silver in 2013.

Jonathan Olliffe designed the new reverse of the 2023 proof Britannia range. The design is inspired by eighteenth-century medals depicting Britannia driving a sea chariot pulled by horses, and features a unique combination of aquatic and serpent-inspired creatures with traditional equine figures.
