Lunar Year of the Rabbit

The rabbit is the fourth animal in the Chinese lunar calendar. Those born during the Year of the Rabbit are regarded as being creative, intelligent, compassionate and vigilant.

Other Year of the Rabbit's include 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999 and 2011.

Additional Security Feature

Each coin features a micro-engraved letter within the design. It is only detectable under a magnifying glass.

Silver Perth Mint Lunar Coins

The Perth Mint introduced their lunar coin series in 1996, starting with the gold Year of the Rat. The silver series began in 1999 with the Year of the Rabbit.

Each coin celebrates a different Chinese zodiac sign, with each cycle lasting 12 years. Since the lunar coins were introduced they have proven to be highly collectable, with most sizes selling out very quickly.

Lunar Series III Coins

The Perth Mint's third series of lunar coins began with the 2020 Year of the Mouse (Rat). The early issues from Series I and Series II are often very hard to find, so if you're thinking about collecting we suggest you buy these earlier issues when the opportunity arises!

The obverse shows the Australian coinage portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II, designed by artist, Jody Clark. The queen is shown from the shoulders upwards. The text reads:

1 KILO 9999 Ag 30 DOLLARS

The reverse shows a rabbit stretching up to a tree branch, with another rabbit beside it keeping watch. It was designed by Ing Ing Jong.

The Perth Mint's mintmark "P" can be found to the bottom right-hand side of the reverse.
