This 2022 - 2023 KCIII 1st & 2nd Portrait Proof Sovereign Bundle contains the 2023 Coronation of King Charles III Gold Proof Sovereign and the 2022 Memorial Elizabeth II Gold Proof Sovereign. The bundle features both the crowned and uncrowned effigies of King Charles III.

The coronation coin marks the first occasion on which King Charles III has appeared on sovereigns with the crowned portrait design. In contrast, the memorial coin marks the inaugural appearance of King Charles III on the coins.

2023 Coronation Sovereign

The King Charles III coronation sovereign commemorates the coronation of King Charles III. It has a mintage of 18,905 coins and a limited edition presentation of 15,000 coins.

2022 Memorial Sovereign

The Queen Elizabeth II memorial sovereign commemorates the reign of the late queen. It has a mintage of 23,160 coins and a limited edition presentation of 17,500 coins.

Proof Coins

Who Engraved the First UK Definitive Coinage Portrait of Charles III?

After the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on 8th September 2022, Martin Jennings sculpted and designed the new King Charles III definitive coinage portrait.

Jennings was born in 1957. He graduated from the University of Oxford in 1979, where he studied English Literature and Language. Afterwards, Jennings undertook a course in Lettering (1979-80).

Each coin in this 2-coin bundle features a unique obverse design.

The KCIII Coronation sovereigns showcase the crowned portrait of King Charles III, engraved by Martin Jennings.

The QEII Memorial sovereigns show the uncrowned portrait of King Charles III, crafted by Martin Jennings.

This 2-coin bundle showcases two separate reverse designs.

The KCIII Coronation sovereigns feature a depiction of St George slaying the dragon. This was designed by Benedetto Pistrucci and has appeared on the reverse of most sovereigns (with few exceptions) since 1817. 

The QEII Memorial sovereigns feature a depiction of the Royal Coat of Arms, by Timothy Noad. It includes the quartered shield of the United Kingdom, topped by a golden lion and a royal crown. The date is also displayed at the bottom of the coin.
