The Who

The Who formed in 1964 and became one of the most influential bands of the 20th century. Founding members Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and John Entwistle started out as The Detours and were already playing regular gigs around London before changing their name. They soon met drummer Keith Moon who was then part of a band called The Beachcombers. After playing just a few songs with The Who, they offered him the job as their drummer.

The Who found fame with "I Can't Explain" and "My Generation", but are just as well known for their rock operas "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia" which were turned into films in 1975 and 1979, respectively.

Daltrey and Townshend still continue to tour, despite the deaths of Moon and Entwistle and released their 12th album, simply titled "Who".

Privy Council

We first heard about the coin after the Privy Council published information about it. The Privy Council is made up of senior politicians who advise the Queen on such matters as bank holidays, coinage and lively company statuses. The Royal Mint have to submit any new coin designs to The Privy Council for approval and that information is then announced on the Privy Council website.

The obverse features the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The text reads:

2021 · ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 5 POUNDS ·

The reverse was designed Henry Gray, who has included some of the most iconic symbols of the band. It features a Rickenbacker guitar-shaped pinball machine, adorned by the Union Jack flag. It is shown smashing through a speaker. The Who's mod logo appears at the top.
