The Royal Albert Hall

Opened by Queen Victoria in 1871, The Royal Albert Hall has been a venue for the world's leading musical artists. The hall was originally intended to be named The Central Hall of Arts and Sciences. It was renamed to honour the Queen's late husband, Prince Albert, who had suggested the hall be built.

With over 350 performances a year, artists from all genres have graced its stage. It has also hosted the Proms since 1941.

Privy Council

We first heard about the coin after the Privy Council published information about it. The Privy Council is made up of senior politicians who advise the Queen on such matters as bank holidays, coinage and lively company statuses. The Royal Mint have to submit any new coin designs to The Privy Council for approval and that information is then announced on the Privy Council website.

Obverse

The obverse will likely show the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The inscription will read:

"ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 5 POUNDS · 2021”

Reverse

According to the Privy Council Notice, the reverse will feature:

a depiction of the Royal Albert Hall accompanied by the inscription “ROYAL · ALBERT · HALL” and the dates “1871 · 2021”
