2021 Mahatma Gandhi One Ounce Gold Proof Coin

These gold proof coins were struck by the Royal Mint to celebrate 90 years since Gandhi first visited the UK. The Heena Glover design features a lotus flower as well as Gandhi's famous quote, "My Life is My Message".

These gold Gandhi coins are struck from 999.9 fine gold (24 carat) to a proof finish. Each coin comes in a wooden presentation box, along with a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Royal Mint. The coins have a limited edition presentation of just 175 coins and a mintage of 185 coins.

Mahatma Gandhi

Born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on 2nd October 1969, Ghandi is known for being one of the leaders of India’s independence movement. Known for his nonviolent protests, he helped liberate India from British rule in 1947.

In the western world, Gandhi is often referred to as "Mahatma". This is a Sanskrit word meaning “great soul.”

Obverse

The obverse bears the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse

Designed by Heena Glover, the reverse of the coin features the national flower of India, the lotus flower. This was chosen to represent Gandhi's strength. The text reads:
