2021 Britannia Two Ounce Gold Proof Coin - NGC Graded PF 69 Ultra Cameo
The first year 2 oz gold Britannias were produced! These 2021 coins are issued by The Royal Mint and feature a stunning new reverse design, by P.J. Lynch. The coin shows Britannia seated with a lion - reminiscent of William Wyon's Una and the Lion design.
These gold proof coins have been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), and have attained the grade of PF 69. It's worth noting the coins are also Ultra Cameo, meaning there's a high contrast between the matte and mirror finish on the design.
These 2 oz gold proof coins are struck from 999.9 fine gold. Although the coins are housed in a protective case, each coin comes with the original wooden presentation box, with a numbered certificate of authenticity from The Royal Mint.
When these coins were first released they sold out within minutes! One was sold in June 2021 in the London Coin auctions for £8190 including buyer fee (lot 254).
According to the certificate the maximum coin mintage is 103 coins, but it has a limited edition presentation of just 50 pieces.
The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark. The text reads:
ELIZABETH II • D •G • REG • F • D • 200 POUNDS
The reverse was designed by artist, P.J. Lynch. It shows a seated Britannia, holding her shield and trident in her left hand, with a lion seated on her right.
