2021 Alice Through the Looking Glass 1 oz Silver Proof Coin.

Celebrate the 150th anniversary of Alice Through the Looking Glass with these colourful 1 oz silver proof coins! This second release in The Royal Mint's Treasury of Tales Series, and the second Alice in Wonderland coin. The first coin is now sold out at the mint!

Designed by Ffion Gwillim, the reverse is based on an original illustration of Alice and Tweedledee and Tweedledum, taken from the first publication of Through the Looking Glass.

These coins are issued in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum, whose Alice in Wonderland exhibition runs until the end of 2021.

Struck from 999 fine silver, this 1 ounce coin is issued to a proof finish. The 1 oz silver coin features a coloured design on the reverse.

Each coin comes in a presentation box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

The coin has a mintage of 3,510, with a limited edition presentation of 3,500.

Alice in Wonderland

The children's story has been a firm favourite amongst children since it was first published in 1865. Written by Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland tells the story of a young girl who falls down a rabbit hole. On her journey, she meets an assortment of characters, including the White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, The Cheshire Cat and Tweedledee and Tweedledum. To date, the book has been translated into 176 languages and has never been out of print!

Obverse

The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.

Reverse

The reverse was designed by Royal Mint engraver, Ffion Gwillim. It is based on an original illustration by Sir John Tenniel, taken from the first publication of Through the Looking Glass. It shows Alice standing in front of Tweedledee and Tweedledum. The text reads:
