This 2020 Winnie-The-Pooh Silver Proof Fifty Pence Coin is the first release in a new series from The Royal Mint.
This fifty pence coin is struck from 0.925 fine silver. The coin features a coloured image of Winnie-the-Pooh on the reverse, inspired by E. H. Shepard’s original illustrations. It comes displayed in an acrylic block, so you can display your coin while keeping it safe.
This is the first in a series of nine coins, which will be released over the next three years. Christopher Robin and Piglet coins will be released later in the year.
Winnie-the-Pooh was created by the English author A. A. Milne. Inspired by a teddy bear his son owned, Milne wrote two volumes of short stories about Pooh and his adventures in Hundred Acre Wood. Milne also included his son, Christopher Robin as one of the main characters.
Disney bought the rights to Winnie-the-Pooh in 1966 and have since produced several films, tv series, video games and even a magazine based on the honey-loving bear.
This is the first in a series of nine coins, which will be released over the next three years.
The obverse was designed by Jody Clark and shows the fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

The reverse is based on the original Pooh illustrations by E. H. Shepard. It shows Winnie-the-Pooh with a jar of honey and a bee buzzing over his head.
